Kaimai Gold Manuka Honey UMF20+ is a licensed product and has been tested to ensure the percentage and presence of active 'Unique Manuka Factor' (UMF). UMF is a measure of the presence and potency of the antibacterial activity, which is active against certain bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus, often associated with infected wounds, and also streptococcus pyogenes, implicated in sore throats. The number after the letters signifies the level of antibacterial activity of the honey against staphylococcus aureus compared to the level of phenol, a known antisepic agent .

UMF Active Manuka Honey has some activity due to the formation of hydrogen peroxide (like most other quality honey), but Manuka honey with Unique Manuka Factor, has activity due to other phytochemicals present in the honey. Kaimai Gold Manuka Honey 20+ has a high level of non-peroxide activity - greater than 20, and this level of activity is only found in a very small proportion of Manuka honey. UMF activity is very stable and keeps its potency with age. It is not affected by light or heat and is resistant to breakdown by certain body enzymes, enabling it to exert its action in the body. It has been shown to be of benefit in stomach disorders such as indigestion, stomach ulcers and bacterial diarrhoea. It may also aid recovery of sore throats and support the immune system. Externally, it may applied to help with wound healing and ulcers. It is also a great energy food to promote general good health
