Zostrix Topical Analgesic Cream

Zostrix Cream effectively eases osteoarthritis pain.

Zostrix Cream is a powerful natural pain reliever made from the active ingredient in red hot chilli peppers called Capsaicin, which is a naturally occurring substance found in plants of the Solanacae family.

For Osteoarthritis pain, the original strength Zostrix cream is advised. For Post Herpetic Neuralgia pain or Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy pain, applying the extra strength Zostrix HP cream is advised.

Zostrix cream pain relief is gradual and may take up to 4-6 weeks to take full effect. It works with the body's chemistry to lower the level of Substance P, which is involved in transmitting pain impulses to the brain often called the body's "pain messenger". Substance P is released into joints and activates other compounds involved in osteoarthritis. When Substance P is reduced, so is the pain. By using Zostrix cream daily the capsaicin builds up, the amount of Substance P is reduced in the body's system and the pain will fade giving relief.

Arthritis is a crippling disease, affecting millions of people worldwide everyday. Arthritis refers to nearly 100 inflammatory conditions that affect joints and connective tissue, but the two most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Also known as wear-and-tear arthritis, osteoarthritis is characterized by deterioration of articular cartilage, bone hypertrophy and changes in the synovial membrane. The chances of having this form of arthritis increases with age, with as many as 80% of people experiencing it by age 65. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder that afflicts sufferers at a younger age and occurs more commonly in woman. It appears in several joints and often in the hands and feet. There is no cure for osteoarthritis, though there are a number of treatment options that can help with the pain and inflammation associated with it including Zostrix cream.

Zostrix Cream instructions:

It is important to use this medicine as directed.

Lighty massage a small quantity of Zostrix Cream into the skin around the affected joint four times a day for maximum benefit. These applications should be evenly spaced throughout the waking hours and no more than every four hours.

A little amount of Zostrix Cream often is the general rule as more than a single blob wont make it work any better and will just waste the cream. A blob just big enough to cover your little fingernail is about the correct amount for a knee joint; less for smaller joints like fingers or a wrist. Zostrix cream should be gently rubbed in so that there is no residue left on the skin.

You may notice a tingling or burning senstation or a redness of the skin after the cream has been applied, which is normal particularly in the early stages of treatment. This is a sign that the capsaicin in the cream working and over the first few days or weeks this effect will gradually disappear. The burning can be worse if the medicine is applied less than the recommended 3 - 4 times a day.

After applying Zostrix cream, fully wash the residue off the fingers, unless arthritic hand joints are actually being treated by the cream.

Do not apply Zostrix cream to cracked or broken or damaged skin. Do not apply Zostrix Cream just after or before a hot bath or shower as it can make the stinging worse. Do not allow Zostrix Cream to make contact with the eyes. Do not put tight bandages over Zostrix cream.

Zostrix Cream is not considered suitable for use on children. Contact your doctor for advice. Store Zostrix Cream below 25°C

Zostrix Cream Ingredients:

Capsaicin USP 0.025% w/w (active ingredient), purified water, sorbitol solution, isopropyl myristate, cetyl alcohol, white soft paraffin, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate and benzyl alcohol.
