Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are required by the body for many functions such as supporting hormonal balance, healthy skin and joint mobility. the body does not have the ability to manufacture its own EFAs, so therefore must obtain them from either the diet or from supplementation. Evening Primrose Oil contains Gamma Linolenic Acid, an important EFA that the body uses to manufacture the so called, friendly prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are hormone like substances that have many roles. One of these prostaglandins has a powerful anti-inflammatory property and uses GLA as a precursor to its manufacture. Therefore having a diet high in GLA allows the body to more easily manufacture this anti-inflammatory prostaglandin, which may be beneficial in reducing the effects of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis or in assisting in the relief of joint pain.

Symptoms of low EFA levels may include skin lesions, flaky skin, dandruff, brittle nails, thinning hair and eczema.
