A healthy vagina has a protective, highly acid environment that protects against harmful bacteria and consequent infection. The normal and healthy range in the vagina is a pH of 3.8 to 4.2. If the pH level is 4.5 or higher it is considered too alkaline to be protective. (a low pH number indicates acidity)
